heart strings

there are few songs that tug my heart strings like the james taylor song, "you can close your eyes"...i have included a video if it below.

 i have tried to figure out the true meaning behind these words.  i have searched them relentlessly, and have yet to determine the true motivation behind his lyrics.  any insights?

is it a passionate yet inevitably temporary relationship?  is it the end of a long-term commitment?

while i don't find myself in any of the above situations, this song has pulled my heart-strings since the first time it ever graced my ears...over 10 years ago.

james taylor can tell me to close my eyes any time he'd like :)
